I wrote earlier this week about how we can work together to share web 2.0 tools with our colleagues. Some people are adventurous enough to try things out and see how it goes, but others find it useful to have some suggestions for uses and a guide to get them going. This is the whole point of apps4class. The aim is to build on the suggestions and create a larger bank of shared knowledge.
We have tried to make this more than just a list of useful sites, freeware and applications of web 2.0 tools. The information includes a brief description of the tool, suggestions for how it can be used and a “How to” guide to get you started. These guides are by no means comprehensive and in making this site available, we hope you will help us build it into a powerful tool.
This wikispace brings together ideas and suggestions we have found (on twitter, through courses, other cpd, personal experiences) in one place. It is a living and growing site. If we can all add details about something new that we have come across and share our experiences, we will have the ability to build a powerful collaborative bank of knowledge that will help us, our colleagues and help us all to help our students in their learning.
This is a site that isn’t about one person sharing their knowledge, it is about a whole community contributing. Together we can make teaching and learning using these tools even more effective and spread their use even further. No list can be comprehensive unless it keeps being added to, improved and tweaked. The tools that are available are ever changing and evolving – we can prevent the wiki from becoming a dinosaur by using it to share our new experiences and ideas with others. Ideas and tools that are useful to us in our classes will be useful to someone else in theirs. This is a forum for sharing that professional practice.
The next post will share details of how you can become involved and how the wiki is set up. We look forward to meeting you on apps4class!
